Should I buy the Nintendo Switch?

It’s a question many gamers have been asking themselves since the Nintendo Switch’s announcement date back in October of last year. The following four games, scheduled to be released this year, may help you to finally decide if it’s worth the money it’s going to take to play them.

For anyone unfamiliar with the latest console from Nintendo, the Switch is a portable console that gives players the option to play on the go simply by snapping the two-piece controller onto either side of the touchscreen. The Switch also offers the ability to hook it up to a television and play games on the big-screen, if that’s more of your style.

According to Pocket-lint.com, it has an LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 1270 x 720 and runs games at up to 60 fps. Although it was released back in March of this year, the hype surrounding Nintendo’s latest system is far from over, especially with the lineup of games expected to be released later this year.

It’s a hard game system to find in stores and even on retailers’ websites right now. However, Amazon does list the Switch with a gray Joy-Con for around $420 as of right now. Will it be worth the money? These four games may help you decide.

1.) Super Mario Odyssey – Expected Release Date: October 27, 2017

Fans of Mario, unite! Our favorite plump, mustachioed plumber is back and taking on the world like never before. It looks like Bowser has big marriage plans for him and Princess Peach (too bad Peach doesn’t seem too agreeable with having a giant fire-breathing Koopa for a husband).

It’s up to Mario to jump from Kingdom to Kingdom in order to save his dear princess! This game looks very similar to the previous Mario epics, Super Mario Galaxy One and Super Mario Galaxy Two for the Wii, which means it’s no surprise that gamers worldwide are eagerly awaiting this one. Odyssey introduces us to a new character named Cappy. The introduction of this character brings us a brand-new feature in Mario games — the ability for Mario to use his newfound hat-shaped pal as a means to take over the body of his foes and use their skills as his own.

This cool feature means that you’ll be blazing around as a Bullet Bill, swimming through the waters as a Cheep-Cheep and, according to the latest trailer, even running around as a giant Tyrannosaurus Rex! Super Mario Odyssey is shaping up to be one of the most innovative and imaginative Mario games to date.

2.) Sonic Mania – Expected Release Date: August 15, 2017

The fastest blue hedgehog on the planet is going back to his 2D roots for the highly anticipated game, Sonic Mania. For fans of classic Sonic games, this one is for us. Sega and Sonic Team, the companies behind the super successful blue blur, have created brand-new, side-scrolling levels for Nintendo Switch owners to blaze through. The new levels are set up similarly to the levels of Sonic past, with giants loops and walls to tear through, but Sonic gets a new skill to get through them this time around: the drop dash!

There are also new bosses and new challenges for Sonic to go up against. Players will also have the option to play through levels as either Tails or Knuckles, another nice homage to everyone’s favorite classic Sonic games.

3.) Fire Emblem Warriors – Expected Release Date: Fall 2017

The Fire Emblem franchise has had a massive revival. The strategy-based RPGs has always had a large fan base, but after the release of the highly popular Fire Emblem Awakening for the Nintendo 3DS, Fire Emblem games have only increased in popularity. Now Nintendo is bringing us Fire Emblem Warriors, which is a crossover game between the Fire Emblem franchise and the large scale war game, Dynasty Warriors.

Players will select from a roster of characters from older and newer Fire Emblem games, but instead of automatic fighting, players will take command and lead their character around the battlefield. It’s a whole new take on a loved game that has been around for years.

4.) ARMS – Expected Release Date: June 2017

ARMS is that game that you’re going to want to get together with a bunch of friends or family members to play. Players select their characters and then battle it out with their crazy-extendable “ARMS,” trying to be the player that comes out on top. There are different game modes and the ability to play with more than one person. The graphics look great and people who were lucky enough to play the game before its release have given the game good scores.
